Kayla has been wearing a pink helmet for the past three months. We have had many people ask us why she has a helmet. Well, it's quite simple. The back of Kayla's head has flattened over time from lying on her back so much. Her skull had to find other places to go as it grew since it couldn't grow towards the back. That is why she is so wide in the back making a kind of triangle shape. Well, after only three months (she will be wearing it about six months) you can see how much the helmet has helped to reshape her head. Before getting Kayla's helmet we thought that it would put pressure on her skull and mold it into shape. Now that I really think about it I can see how that is totally not even possible. When Kayla first got the helmet it was actually quite loose on her. As she grew into it the parts of her skull that were protruding out farther would make contact with the helmet and hinder growth in that spot. This allows the flat spots to grow out and round out her head. We are so excited to see how much the helmet is helping and even more excited for the day it gets to come off permanently. I can't wait to do her hair again.
