Scars

Kayla is now seven months old and she has seven surgical scars on her tiny little body.
When Kayla was only two weeks old she had major abdominal surgery where they repaired, reorganized, patched, and even removed parts of her tiny, fragile body.  It was then that she also received her feeding tube.
A short time later when Kayla had just turned three months old she had very scary open heart surgery.  The morning of her surgery was very terrifying for me.  I was taking as many pictures of Kayla as I could for fear that I would never see her smiling face again.  Thankfully she had an amazing team and she was brought back to us healthy and pink.  When they brought her back from surgery she had two chest tubes placed to drain the blood that was still leaking from surgery.  They also had wires coming from the same spots in case they needed to shock her heart back into action in case it struggled after surgery.  The wires were never used =].
Two days after Kayla turned seven months she had her third and less scary surgery to repair her two hernias in her groin area.    With this surgery she received a local anesthetic called a Caudal which is pretty much an epidural.  This way she did not have as many drugs in her system and she was able to wake up a lot easier.  She was not too happy about her legs being numb though.
Seven scars in seven months.  Hopefully there will not be any more in a really long time, better yet, a lifetime.
